National Initiatives

A Helping Hand to Our Communities

As a constituent temple of A.E.A.O.N.M.S., Shuja Temple No. 281 proudly supports three national initiatives that uplift our communities through health, education, and mentorship.

Our National Mission

Three Programs, One Purpose

The Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine, Inc. has served communities of color since 1893. Through the Prince Hall Shrine Foundation, AEAONMS administers three flagship national programs that address the most pressing needs in our communities: health disparities, educational access, and youth mentorship. Shuja Temple No. 281 actively participates in each of these initiatives both nationally and locally.

Prince Hall Shriners Health Walk Community Health Initiative

National Community Health Initiative (NCHI)

Combating health disparities in communities of color.

The purpose of the National Community Health Initiative is to promote education and awareness regarding diseases and health conditions that disproportionately impact communities of color, and to eradicate their associated health disparities. The NCHI aims to improve the lives of A.E.A.O.N.M.S. family members and the communities they serve through the financial support of healthcare research and national outreach efforts.

Through partnerships with organizations like the American Diabetes Association, the NCHI conducts annual community health walks, health fairs, screenings, and awareness campaigns throughout the Imperial Domain.

Shuja’s Local Commitment: Shuja Temple No. 281 participates in the NCHI through our annual Community Health Walk and ongoing partnerships with local healthcare organizations in College Park and Metro Atlanta.

AEAONMS HBCU Initiative

HBCU Initiative

Investing in the next generation of Black scholars.

The HBCU Initiative Committee serves the Imperial Council as the conduit toward bringing awareness and support to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The committee’s mission is to assist in the attainment of higher education at HBCUs while partnering with these historic institutions to enrich the lives of students of color and prepare them for the future.

The committee coordinates the raising of funds to support monthly scholarships for students enrolled at our nation’s HBCUs, with all disbursements monitored and directed through the Imperial Council.

Shuja’s Local Commitment: Shuja Temple No. 281 contributes to monthly HBCU scholarships and is committed to honoring the legacy of HBCU education in our community.

AEAONMS Shriners as Mentors Program

Shriners as Mentors (S.A.M.)

Mentoring at-risk youth toward lives of purpose.

The Shriners as Mentors program began in 2005 at the A.E.A.O.N.M.S. Convention in New Orleans. Over the past two decades, the program has achieved high levels of acclaim, with ninety-five percent (95%) of the Deserts (individual states or regional areas) throughout the Imperial Domain hosting mentoring programs for at-risk youth.

S.A.M. pairs Nobles with young people in their communities to provide guidance, role-modeling, and the kind of consistent positive influence that helps youth navigate critical life decisions and build foundations for success.

Shuja’s Local Commitment: Shuja Temple No. 281 is committed to launching and sustaining S.A.M. mentorship efforts for at-risk youth in the Oasis of College Park and surrounding communities.
